Keeping kids entertained over summer is difficult.. The excitement of summer ends after the first couple of days. With over 10 weeks of no planned activity, your child can quickly become bored.
Boredom can lead to unhealthy diet habits and lack of exercise. It’s much more likely that someone with no plans will default to watching TV, playing videos, games or taking a good old fashioned nap (after eating sugary foods).
Luckily, there are simple ways to keep kids entertained over summer. These quick fixes take so little time, that they fit into any schedule. Even if your family is heavily involved in sports, activities, or clubs, you will benefit by implementing these summer activities into your life.
Break Out the Blender
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, especially over summer. Kids who wake up later that usual are less likely to start their day with their normal healthy breakfast. A healthy smoothie for breakfast will get your day started the right way.
You can easily add nutrient-rich fruits and vegetables to your diet by drinking them. Healthy summer smoothies taste great and take a minute to make. And if you make too much, simply place the leftovers in your fridge and drink them for an afternoon snack.

Try a 30 Day Fitness Challenge
You’ve seen commercials for get-fit-fast workout DVDs – but did you know that there are free alternatives for kids to use?
Having your exercise planned and scheduled is a great way to stick to any fitness routine.
We are thinking of working our own 30 Day Fitness Program for Kids. If you’re interested in seeing us publish something like this, email us at info@thebikedojo.com
One thing to consider: Summer heat affects your body more than you realize. Make sure that you’re exercising in an open, well-ventilated space, and are drinking enough water to stay hydrated (throw in a couple of ice cubes for good measure).
Use Your Library Card
Kids work hard, and they deserve a break. But after 10 weeks or more of no homework, no classes, and no recess, our brains become sluggish.
Part of staying entertained is keeping a healthy mind and challenging your brain. . Reading a book for 30 minutes a day will boost cognitive functions and keep your child in learning mode. They’ll use this summer to prepare for school in the fall.
Join a Summer Camp
Registering for a summer camp is not only a great way to keep kids entertained over summer, it’s also a great way for your children to socialize and make new friends.
KidsDojo summer camp provides a unique mountain bike experience. Any rider, regardless of experience, can join. All participants will receive mountain bike lessons from qualified trainers in a safe, respectful environment. Our classes are limited to ensure that each camper gets personal attention.
Summer camps also have everything planned for the duration of the camp – We provide a fun safe environment, transportation, and bikes (if needed) to all of our campers.
Staying entertained and active over summer is difficult, but with the right approach, fitness will become second nature.
Space in our mountain bike summer camp and after school programs is limited.
